Primary Purpose This internship will support engineering initiatives focused on infrastructure improvements, equipment modernization, and automation opportunities across manufacturing operations. Working closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Production teams, the intern will evaluate current systems, analyze performance data, and contribute to projects that improve efficiency, reliability, safety, and operational performance. Project assignments may vary based on business needs and the intern's area of study but will provide hands-on experience in engineering problem-solving and continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment. Project Highlights Support engineering projects that drive infrastructure improvements, equipment modernization, and automation across manufacturing operations. Contribute to initiatives that improve departmental productivity, operational efficiency, and process reliability. Work directly with experienced engineers, providing opportunities for mentorship and leadership development within the Engineering team. Qualifications Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Agricultural, Civil, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering discipline. Experience with AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design (CAD) software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in manufacturing, automation, and process improvement. Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Valid Driver's license. Must pass the Mountaire Motor Vehicle Record check. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel. Internship Program Requirements Complete assigned project identified by department mentor. Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities. All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program or final presentations (August 2-6, 2027). All interns are required to complete a 10-minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 2-6. POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: The incumbent assumes responsibility for managing all field operations on assigned projects, in order to achieve timely and profitable completion. S/he directly supervises superintendents, foremen, and field labor (including subcontractors), and exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. Base salary range of $140K - $170K KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates superintendent assignments and oversees foremen, field labor, and subcontractor work activities on all projects. Plans, organizes and evaluates projects according to the assigned schedule and given specifications. Prepares schedules and monitors work progress against allocated budgets. Closely monitors material and labor variances, so that maximum profits can be gained. Provides support to multiple projects from an operational, financial, and resource standpoint. Partners with project managers in overseeing the total construction effort in accordance with design, budget, quality, and schedule. Attends and actively participates in project meetings. Provides technical assistance as needed, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection inspection of contractor or subcontractor operations to ensure contract compliance. Develops and maintains relationships with internal/external clients and key stakeholders. Collaborates with project managers and superintendents to create site logistics plans. Communicates and enforces the Safety and Health Management Program. Demonstrates commitment to an injury-free environment through personal accountability and mentoring. Constructs detailed short-term schedules and ensures activities take place on/ahead of scheduled dates. Prepares the Superintendent Deliverables Report to document weather and field conditions, trade and subcontractor manpower, progress, and other conditions impacting a given project. Coordinates training and education to support field superintendents and engineers. Acts in lieu of superintendents as scheduling or business needs dictate. Executes HR-related decisions (promotions, terminations, salary adjustments, corrective actions, etc.) for direct reports.
