*X-Ray Tech / Radiology Tech / DEXA* *Reports To:* Clinical Director *Job Summary:* This position is responsible for operating X-ray and DEXA equipment that assists radiologists and physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury. *Primary Job Responsibilities:* 1. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. 2. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards. 3. Takes X-rays or performs DEXA scans following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area. 4. Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjusts/sets radiographic controls. 5. Positions patients and takes X-rays of specific parts of the patient’s body as requested by physicians. 6. Checks images for clarity of image, repeating images when needed. 7. Maintains watch over electronic image transmission to PACS 8. Distributes images and/or reports to appropriate medical staff. 9. Maintains required records including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports. 10. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray and DEXA unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and practice policies. 11. Complies with safety standards. 12. Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs. 13. Maintains radiographic supplies and orders as necessary. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. *Education: *Associate’s degree in radiologic technology from accredited radiologic technology program. Current national ARRT or state X-Ray Technology certificate or license. *Experience:* One to three years of experience as X-ray technician, preferably in medical practice environment. *Other Requirements:* American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration preferred. *Knowledge:* 1. Knowledge of X-ray imaging procedures and protocols. 2. Knowledge of DEXA imaging procedures and protocols. 3. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform X-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement. 4. Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology. *Skills:* 1. Skill in identifying equipment problems and correcting or notifying supervisor. 2. Skill in following infection control and radiological safety procedures. *Abilities:* 1. Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure required. 2. Ability to notice detail in drawings and differences in shapes and shadings. 3. Ability to read and write instructions, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 4. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees. 5. Ability to communicate and establish a good rapport with patients, doctors, and staff. 6. Ability to competently use Microsoft Office. *Equipment Operated:* Radiological equipment used for medical diagnosis and treatment. *Work Environment:* Radiological unit. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assesses, monitors, documents and reports progress of patient's health and condition using required documents via clinician preferred technology, and within established timelines • Helps maintain continuity of care by collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and attending physician to develop, integrate, and manage the patient care plan of care, making referrals to other disciplines as needed • Demonstrates intermediate knowledge of home care and competency in discipline for specific patient care skills, required for the provision of care • Recognize and respond to priorities in patient care with initiative and sound judgment. • Assist with training/orienting others. • Utilizes accepted company teaching materials in patient/family education • Completes documentation timely, accurately, and at the point of care, according to industry standards (e.g., OASIS assessments, SOC/Admissions, Recertifications, ABN’s, subsequent visits, physician orders, care coordination, etc.) • Report any alleged or suspected violations to supervisor and/or others until the issue is resolved. • Complies with corporate compliance program • Meets agency productivity standards and utilizes time and resources effectively and efficiently • Participates in center/agency surveys (Licensure/Joint Commission), mandatory in-services, case conferences, staff meetings, and programs (e.g., Performance Improvement Program) as required • Follow established safety regulations and procedures, and report job-related functions/tasks that involve occupational hazards, as necessary • Maintains current license, certification, and clinical records to meet federal, state and agency regulations and guidelines • Ability to be self-directed, prioritize, manage time appropriately, and meet outcomes and strategic goals by targeted deadlines.
